This graphic series is about place… A place with forgotten stories and memories. A place which in the past was full of life – now  forgotten, turned into brashwood, with old, abandoned homes. They stay in the middle of the forest as “monuments to human life”.

The main graphic element and metaphor of the series is the window. It becomes a kind of portal for a person who looks into it, at the junction of two worlds – present and past. The window become for me a tool for reading the history of people and families who lived in these homes. Also, important is the environment, that marks the building, the light that catches from the dark symbols, the shadows that create individual patterns.

Graphic technique, used to create the works, is not accidental. Mezzotint – is an intaglio printing technique in which the image is created in a way from black to lighter and lighter spots with wide spectrum of the halftones. It is a kind of “struggle of light and shadow”, and it only depends on the artist what will win in this struggle. The way in which the images begin to appear on a matrix is similar the way memories appear in our head – from the shadow of oblivion becoming clear and clear, they take on concrete forms. And what‘s next? Memories sink into Forgetfulness again, and I do that with graphics – with each new print, the print fades as does the remembrance, that fades into our memory for seconds.

Can we fight oblivion? Probably so, each in his own way. Here is my attempt.
